Deep Background

Hiding your online presence might raise skepticism

HR consulting firm CareerBuilder found in a survey of hiring managers last year that 41 percent of firms said they are less likely to interview candidates if background checkers can’t find the person on the Internet.

“There’s a lot of buzz about the various ways social media blunders can cost you a job, but that doesn’t mean you should keep your profiles completely private,” CareerBuilder said in a summary of its findings.

The survey received responses from more than 2,100 hiring and HR managers.
